Knowledge throws light on new ways.
We rely on research when developing new lighting solutions that benefit our three focus areas: people’s quality of life, our society and the environment. Science is a constant source of inspiration when creating ever more user-friendly, intelligent solutions.
This is smart lighting
Lighting accounts for 15% of global electricity use, but smart solutions can reduce this by up to 90%. By replacing traditional fluorescent lights with connected ecosystems, we lower costs and carbon footprints while enabling a circular economy through proactive, data-driven maintenance.
The right light in the right place
We combine academic research with innovative design to create high-quality environments tailored to human needs. Beyond illumination, our sensor-rich networks provide valuable insights—enabling everything from indoor campus navigation to efficient crowd management in outdoor spaces.
“Smart lighting is the key to efficient and sustainable environments, both indoors and outdoors.”
Johan Lembre,
CTO, Fagerhult Group

“We make lighting for people. For me, it’s a matter of understanding how light affects our well-being – visually, biologically and emotionally.”

Director, Fagerhult

Future-proofing real estate with the revised EPBD
The revised Energy Performance of Buildings Directive (EPBD) marks a shift toward mandatory, real-time energy monitoring. Smart lighting is a key enabler for this compliance, using sensor-equipped luminaires to capture and share data. This provides two essential functions: automated lighting control to meet strict efficiency targets, and the collection of granular sensor data required for the directive’s high-level energy reporting and smart readiness standards.

Our technical solution - an open echo system
Fagerhult Group offers two leading smart lighting solutions: Organic Response for indoor environments such as schools, offices, and hospitals, and Capelon for outdoor applications. Both systems are built on the principle of occupancy-based lighting—adapting to actual needs in real-time. This approach ensures that light is only used when and where it's needed, driving significant energy savings across all environments.
Fagerhult Experience Center
At Fagerhult Group, we always strive to add value, foster dialogue, and provide inspiration for high-quality lighting environments designed for people. As a testament to this commitment, our brand Fagerhult opened a unique Experience Centre in Habo in 2022—a flagship destination defined by knowledge and interactivity.
This center is built upon Fagerhult’s comprehensive expertise and serves as a hub for education on the importance of "the right light in the right place." We have created a collaborative space where visitors can experience, test, and investigate every dimension of light. Our goal is to provide deep insights and inspiration, ensuring that every guest leaves with new ideas and a clear understanding of light’s potential.

7 reasons for smart lighting
Lighting that responds to its users, turns on when you are actually there, adopts to the daylight conditions and even identifies its own maintenance needs? It might once have felt like a luxury, but the benefits of smart lighting include better health, more efficiency, lower costs and environmental wins too.
In fact, it’s not just a nice-to-have – it’s an imperative for any business, real estate company, municipality or city looking to futureproof their premises, meet sustainability targets and integrate with other systems to offer new services to tenants and citizens.
